"Reflections on the Heart"
by Lacey Shannon
When you look into a mirror
Do you like what you see?
What do you see?
Is your nose too big
Your mouth too small?
Is your chest too flat
Or are you too tall?
Maybe a better way to start
Is to see how that mirror
Reflects on your heart.
That mirror can't tell you
How far you will go
All the mirror can tell you
You already know.
Perhaps happiness does come when you look into a mirror
And like what you see.
But you don't think that adage
Was about having the right eyeliner,
Do you?
The girl in the mirror is not me
If the mirror shatters, so does she.
She may break, but I'll always
Continue to be.
What's a mirror but only
A reflection of me?
