"It Won't Bring Him Back"

by Michael Marchand

From behind the cold metal bars, He hears the warden's calls. And as he finishes his last meal, He's still wondering if its all real. They escort him from his cell, And tell him that he's going to hell. Then they strap him to the chair, And he wonders if they are aware. He knows he cant be heard, So he begins to mouth the words: "I'm sorry for what I've done, I'm sorry about the death of your son. But you've gotta face the fact, Killing me won't bring him back." Then he looked to them and asked for forgiveness, as he breathes his last. They say "NO" and shake thier head, "We won't be happy till we see you dead." Then they put a veil on his face, To hide his God-given grace. And right before they took his life, He began to wonder what heaven was like. The he finally reached every man's goal, 'Cause he was sorry deep in his soul. And then they realized after the fact, Killing him didn't bring their son back.
